Choosing a Teacher, Choosing a Suzuki Program

Selecting a teacher, and a music education program is an important choice. To help each family make an informed decision, I encourage all prospective families to read about the Suzuki Method. There are several online resources available including the Suzuki Association of the Americas website which have excellent introductory articles. Beyond the introductory articles, I recommend that all parents read Dr. Suzuki's book Nurtured by Love.

Before accepting new students, I arrange an interview-meeting with each family. During this time, we will discuss the Suzuki method, lesson scheduling, the group class program and basic instrument information. If you are interviewing with me during the school year, I will ask you to attend and observe one group class and at least one private studio lesson. If you are interviewing with me during a time of year when group classes are not running, I will ask you to observe two private studio lessons. I require all prospective families to complete their observations prior to being accepted for a studio space, or a spot on the studio wait list.

My studio program operates on a four term basis, and therefore I am able to accept new students at any point throughout the year. Acceptance of new students is limited by the availability of private lesson time. Registration for September 2018 will begin in May 2018. If you are interested in joining my Suzuki program, please contact me to discuss the availability of private lesson time and begin the interview process. Families are encouraged to consider scheduling their child's lesson in the 'after school' times (between 3 and 5pm) whenever possible. Mid morning lesson times may be available in 2018-19. Please keep in mind that lesson times after 530pm are in very high demand. Please contact me to discuss details.
